Fairy Princess Demonstrates a Case for Support – Part 2 of 2

We return again to "Yesteryear" and take up where we left off Friday. You'll recall the Knight was just saying…..

“Well, that sounds like mighty fine work you’re doing there, Fairy Princess,” said the Knight. “You’ve been having some success at this Frog-Rubbin’ stuff, have you?”

“Yes, I have,“ said the Fairy Princess. “As a matter of fact with the contributions we’ve received from other generous donors like you, we’ve gotten 15 Charming Princes and presented them to the Fairy Princesses. So fifteen thin, frail, pale, droll princesses have rather suddenly brightened up. Fantastic!

“But look, Fred, this doesn’t come cheap, ya know! It takes 1000 clams just to train one of our elves. And these elves not only have to catch the frog, but then have to patiently, over time, rub it just the right way to turn it into a prince. Like I said, that’s not cheap. And for every Fairy Princess that gets a Prince, there’s 100 more who don’t yet have one. And with numbers like that... Well, you can guess the size of the job we have to do and the cost to do it! Right, Fred?.

“So that’s why I’m here today, Fred, because without you, my friend, without your contribution to the Save A Prince Fund, we can’t turn all those frogs into Charming Princes, and we can’t make all those Fairy Princesses happy. And that, as you know, could leave the countryside in a horrible mess with all those whiney, droll, dried up ole Princesses running all around the place.”

“Well, so what do you want me to do, Fairy Princess?” said the Knight.

“What I want you to do is shell out 1000 clams so I can train another elf, and that elf can rub 6 frogs that turn into Charming Princes, and that will make 6 Fairy Princesses very, very happy again. You see how it works?. Do your part, there, brother, help out this worthy cause.

“And you know what, if you will do that for me, if you’ll give me the 1000 clams today, guess what I’m prepared to do for you!?”

“What’s that, Fairy Princess?”

“If you give me the 1000 clams today, I’m going right downtown to put your name up on the King’s castle wall so that everybody can see that deep down, under those ugly ole armored plates and that chain mail of yours, you’re really a True Prince Charming yourself!! How about that!? You like that, Fred?”

“Oh, that’s great, Fairy Princess!” said the Knight. “I always hoped that some day someone would come along and help me tell the world that I can do a lot of good things besides just going off to war in the crusades and things. And, you know what, Fairy Princess? Going off to war really isn’t my favorite thing anyway. I much prefer jousting, feasting and wooing young maidens. So, here’s the 1000 clams. Go train yourself another elf.”

And with that, the Fairy Princess scampered off to put the Knight’s name on the castle wall, right along with the names of all her other friends and associates.
